Celebrating Academic Excellence: Undergraduate Students Win International Conference and Journal Acceptance

Hello everyone,

Today, I would like to share some good news about the achievements of students from our program. I also hope that their experiences can encourage all of you to think more proactively about your university studies, research projects, and future professional development.

(1) Our senior student, Ngan Ho Kit (Isaac), has had his research paper, “Cross-Domain Intrusion Detection under Distribution Shift: A Supervision-Constrained Transfer Learning Study,” completed under my supervision, accepted by The 8th Eurasia Conference on IoT, Communication and Engineering 2026 (ECICE 2026).

Isaac is expected to attend ECICE 2026 this November and present his research at the international conference.

During his undergraduate studies, Isaac has already accumulated several research achievements, including:

• Receiving funding for an NSTC Undergraduate Student Research Project;
• Completing an International Conference Paper that has been accepted for presentation and publication;
• Continuing to prepare for participation in a national Information Application and Service Innovation Competition; and
• Completing a more comprehensive and research-oriented Journal Paper under my supervision, which has been submitted and is currently under review.

These achievements have been built gradually through continuous effort in research, programming implementation, experimental analysis, academic writing, and repeated revision and improvement.

(2) Yan-Wei Li (Rex), who graduated from our program this year, completed the research paper “A Physics-Informed Spatial-Temporal Graph Attention Model for Traffic Forecasting and Interpretable Congestion Propagation Analysis” under my supervision. The paper was accepted and officially published this July in the international academic journal CMES – Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences.

Rex is the first student in the history of our program to complete a high-level academic journal paper during his undergraduate studies and successfully have it accepted and formally published in an international academic journal.

During his studies in our program, Rex also accumulated a wide range of research and competition achievements, including:

• Receiving funding for an NSTC Undergraduate Student Research Project;

• Publishing two international/national conference papers:
1. “Tranexis: A Smart Management Platform for Predicting Traffic Flow Based on Integrated Time Domain and Spatial Domain Graph Neural Networks,” presented at the IEEE International Conference on Consumer Electronics-Taiwan (ICCE-Taiwan);
2. “From Black Box to Trustworthy Decision-Making: An Intelligent Credit Risk Management and Recourse System Based on Domain Knowledge-Constrained XAI,” presented at ICIM 2026 – The 37th International Conference on Information Management, National Taipei University of Technology, May 16, 2026;

• Completing and publishing one high-level Journal Paper;

• Completing a second Journal Paper under my supervision, which has already been submitted and is currently under review;

• Actively participating in several national competitions and innovation activities during his junior and senior years, including the 2026 Information Application and Service Innovation Competition, the 2026 Mobile Application Innovation Contest (MAIC), the 2026 New Taipei City AI Smart City Hackathon, and the 2026 Entrepreneurship Competition organized by the College of Management at Ming Chuan University.

The experiences of Isaac and Rex demonstrate something very important: during your four years at university, completing courses and earning credits are important, but it is equally important to gradually build professional capabilities and tangible achievements that truly represent your own abilities.

I hope all of you can learn from their experiences and, according to your own interests, abilities, and career goals, actively plan and participate in opportunities such as:

• Capstone projects;
• Academic research and paper writing;
• NSTC Undergraduate Student Research Projects;
• National and international professional competitions and innovation activities;
• International conferences and academic exchanges; and
• Professional systems, portfolios, and other projects that demonstrate your capabilities.

Not everyone needs to follow exactly the same path. However, I hope that each of you will set your own goals during your university years, actively seek opportunities, work seriously toward them, and gradually build meaningful achievements of your own.

These experiences are valuable not simply because they add items to your résumé. More importantly, they help you develop professional knowledge, programming skills, problem-solving ability, research capability, teamwork, presentation skills, academic writing, and the ability to solve problems independently. These capabilities will be very valuable for your future graduate-school applications, employment, and long-term career development.

Once again, congratulations to Isaac and Rex. I look forward to sharing more outstanding achievements and good news from many more students in our program in the future!
